Working on a site revamp
2026/01/30 @ 1:01 PM

When I first started making my site, I was in the camp of visual maximalism. Or at least relative maximalism - pages take up lots of viewport space, it's multi-column, there's "clutter". The new design is, likewise, relatively minimalist. It's only 500 pixels wide at least on the homepage, and I'm attempting to only say things that matter. I know lots of people like it when interfaces are busy and full, but I feel like that's not representative of what I'm trying to make. I just want a place that I can go to record things - it doesn't need to be more than just the medium. That's my philosophy for this coming redesign, but who knows? It might eventually start to hurt my eyes like my current one does. I guess it'll be the start of an endless cycle, which frankly, is fine.

I'm also going to start using a SSG, namely 11ty since everyone seems to love it so much. My small brain is having some issues with figuring out how it really works, but I've got the basic idea so it should be fine. I'm also going to try and implement a theme switcher, with more than just two themes. Hopefully there will be B/W, nord, Solarized, and maybe some others as well. These goals may end up being too ambitious, because I work slowly and I have a limited amount of winter break remaining to grind this out. Failing here would mean months of zero progress on this, because I usually have so little time to do anything except write an entry here.

I'm thinking about making a tutorial on the subject of downloading/sourcing music or just on how to use yt-dlp and it's many offspring. I feel bad for people who don't know that seal exists and it's making me want to do something about it. Who knows if I actually will or should though, like bleaghch who cares dawg

In my last entry I talked about how I wished I could compose music. Well, I really did mean that and so I downloaded reaper (a DAW, like FL studio) and poked around to see how things were, if it felt like something I could reasonably achieve. And well, I've been majorly intimidated. I think if I actually sat down and started reading and watching I would be able to get somewhere with it, but I just... music and music theory is one of those things that will always be a little too involved of a subject for me to easily sink my teeth into. I swear though, one day I will become a proficient digital composer. Mark my words. It's become one of my "skills I aspire to have", along with digital illustration, knowing more than three programming languages, and 3D modeling/CAD. One day, I tell you, one day. One day I'll stop sitting on my butt writing about how much I wish I was capable of something and start doing something about it. Heck, why not today? Oh yeah, because I have to do the obligatory site redesign. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHA I'm the master of procrastination. Every time that I attain some new technical skill, I feel great and empowered afterwards, since I realized that the thing which was so opaque to me before now makes sense, and the process must be repeatable with every other thing I could possibly want to understand. But then I just let that feeling wither and die instead of acting on it. Every time. I think this is the reason my skillset is so relatively limited - I don't keep going after accomplishing something. I let myself stagnate. Truly, how do I fix myself.
